The FMCSA has been trying to create a one-stop platform that is fully inclusive of registration, updates, records, and filings within the trucking industry. With the introduction of Motus, the industry can expect a streamlined, convenient platform that automatically stores everything in the system and allows you, your compliance professionals, and your internal team to access records with ease.
Key Features of Motus
- A unified dashboard consolidates applications for USDOT numbers, operating authority requests, biennial updates, and insurance filings into one portal.
- Motus improves security by requiring Login.gov for account access and using identity verification tools such as IDEMIA. This approach minimizes the risk of fraud and identity theft.
- Motus is built to work across smartphones, tablets, and desktop browsers, making it an accessible and user-friendly platform.
- Once implemented, Motus will make it easier for compliance professionals like Dakota Group to support clients directly, manage authorized filings, maintain cleaner records, and reduce administrative friction.
In many ways, we see this change shifting DOT and FMCSA compliance closer to the model used by tax professionals, where a trusted advisor can be properly authorized to work on behalf of a client, help manage deadlines, and improve the overall filing experience for everyone involved.
We are excited to see FMCSA move toward a system that supports carriers, strengthens oversight, and allows qualified compliance teams to deliver a more organized and professional experience.
Tentative Rollout Schedule:
- Currently, the exact time for the rollout has not been announced. However, once this update is implemented, the system will be open to all users, including new and existing motor carriers and brokers.
- Once rolled out, Motus will be able to assign permissions to each account, allowing compliance companies to handle their filings on their behalf with ease in an effort to create a system more akin to how tax professionals work with their clients
- This second phase does not include the immediate elimination of MC/FF/MX docket numbers, nor does it change the current filing process for BOC-3s.
- Users should continue using their trusted systems, and feel free to reach out with any immediate needs as we await the FMCSA announcement of the official release of this new integration.
